It has been exactly nine days since I did a trading card review, and that was for the premium "Big Bads" set. Today, I decided that I would write about a set that, as the title of this posts suggests, is all about the various ladies in "Buffy". Like the "Big Bads" set, the "Women of Sunnydale" collection was released by Inkworks and it was first made available in September 2004.
This set features a 90 card base set and the collection is choc-full of chase cards (puzzle cards), Pieceworks (small swatches of show-worn costumes embedded into a card) cards, autograph cards (officially licensed), promo cards and bonus cards. Like with many of the other sets, you can also get a matching padded binder - also produced by Inkworks - for it. I have the base set, an autograph card and the binder, which I will be discussing later.
The appearance of the cards is rather nice, though they are not foil-backed, they have beautiful boarders of various colours that give the cards a feminine feel. The images on the base set are all stills from the series so the quality can look a little low, but that is to be expected since the series often had a slightly grainy texture.
As one would expect with Inkworks "Buffy" cards, the base set is divided into subsets, including: Buffy, Willow, Cordelia, Anya, Tara, Dawn, Good Girls (featuring the heroic women), Bad Girls (featuring the villainous women) and Girl Fight (featuring battles between the women).
Probably the biggest appeal of this particular set is that there are 15 autograph cards to collect, which I believe is the highest number in any Inkworks "Buffy" set. The autograph cards that you can get include:
I personally chose to get the Iyari Limon one to start with, because of my love for Kennedy. I must say that the autograph cards are beautiful. The front includes the signature, a picture of the character and a stamp of authenticity. On the back, it includes information about the character's role and a tidbit of information about the celebrity. They are exactly the same size as regular cards in the set, so they can fit nicely into a trading card wallet.
As far as non-premium "Buffy" cards go, the "Women of Sunnydale" set has got to be my favourite. All of the cards are very attractive and if you buy a hobby box, you have got a really good chance of receiving an autograph, Pieceworks card and some bonus ones, too. However, even if you do choose to just buy the base set, you can find the individual special cards sold separately on Amazon, eBay and specialist sites. I paid just under £30 for my autograph card, but the prices do vary. The base set is one of the easiest ones to come across and you can find it for a very affordable price.
What do you think of the cards? Do you have any yourself? I would love to hear your thoughts!

P.S: Over the weekend, I tweaked the theme of my blog (hence the no posting). I also had a technological mishap and somehow, my Illyria character study got deleted. I am, however, in the process of re-writing it. So in case you were looking for it and you found no content on the post, you now know why. It will be back and better than before, though! Hopefully with the new design of my blog, you will be able to find my previous pieces much easier by using the category function located on the right-hand side.
