Today, I am going to be trying out something slightly different. I am going to be sharing my opinion on a book first released on October 1st 1998: "The Watcher's Guide", written by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder.
I happened to purchase the book on a whim when I was browsing through my local independent book shop. You may have noticed from the photo that I got it for £2.99 -for my non-British readers, I got it for a complete bargain!-. I was very impressed by the length of it; according to the Buffy wiki, it is 298 pages long. The book works as an episode guide for seasons one and two, giving a synopsis of each episode, a fact about the episode, the writer(s), director(s), and the stars. It also features information such as "pop-culture IQ". "continuity", "quote of the week" and various other categories that are episode dependent.
Aside from being an informative episode guide, "The Watcher's Guide" is also choc full of cast and crew interviews (including big names like Joss Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan), behind the scenes photos, information about the monsters, quotes, character profiles, and a whole other range of goodies.

One feature of the book that I particularly enjoyed is the playlist section at the very end of the book. It includes songs from the episodes as well as the recording artist, the year it was released, and the album it came from. Pretty cool if you want to scope out the music.
So would I recommend the book? Absolutely. It's hard to imagine that any fan of "Buffy" would be disappointed with it. I have been a fan since it was originally being broadcast and I still learned plenty. The back of the book says, "Don't be caught dead without THE WATCHER'S GUIDE" and I wholeheartedly agree. The beautiful photos are enough for one to buy the book, in my opinion. There is one of Alyson Hannigan that is absolutely beautiful that I have yet to come across online.
Another great reason to purchase the book is that it is now extremely cheap. You can easily find copies of it on Amazon or eBay that are affordable and in good condition. It's certainly worth the money!
What do you think of the book? Do you have it yourself? Let me know!
